There we found a small company that had
been recommended for whale watching by Sue our host at our B & B.
All rigged up in live saving stuff, we gently coasted
out of the harbour towards the open sea.
First up, a sea lion puffing its way around the harbour.
Like all good sea faring communities, Ucluelet is
best seen from the water.
These lazy old 'men' just spend the day making a lot
of noise without doing very much.
Wonderful whiskers.
A garage for boats.
We are soon seeing eagles galore.
Spot the sea baby.
After an hour or so of seeing no action, suddenly we
see two humpback whales; mother and baby, we are told.
Other whale watchers join us.
A bit soft, this one, but its the only
one that shows some of the underbelly.
We move on (at about 30 knots!) to the broken
islands, which are very beautiful. They used to be inhabited by first
nation people, but not for the last 100 years.
Here are some Stella sea lions which can weigh up to 2000lbs.
