Yosemite National Park was created in 1890 and is pretty huge by European standards. 1169 square miles, height varying from 2000 to 13,000 feet. Our entrance was via the Tioga pass, a shade under 10,000 feet above sea level. And what a fantastic drive that is from Lake Mono up to the pass and on through the Tuolumne meadows.
This is part way up the climb to Tioga Pass from Mono Lake.

9358 feet above sea level. It's bright, cold and sunny.

with some super views across Tioga lake.

Up here, random boulders lie just as the last glacier left them.

Our first sight of the Bridal veil waterfall in Yosemite Valley. and then one arrives at the well named Valley View parking Lot.

You can't fail to get a good picture from here; if, that is, you can barge your way through the crowds.

There, I did it. Each time you come here, the lighting is guaranteed to be different.

Same view, different day! See what I mean?
The locals kept telling us that the weather was all over the place this year.

Now where did I hear that before?

Mist, fog, rain, sleet. We had it all in the first couple of days.
